  1. Do comics really count, really?

  2. the definition of book is:
"a written work or composition that has been published (printed on pages bound together);"
    so yes.

On a separate note, comics have contained more inspiration, joy and excitement for me than years of "traditional" novels. And theyre not just one issue! They're collections and volumes.

  5. I remember Money being my first "rude" book. It was a bit of a surprise after London Fields. Maybe try Success by Amis as well? Pretty short and good,

My gf reckons Neil Gaiman's novel American Gods is brilliant and so has bought me a copy. It is massive. I may start/finish it by the Olympics, we'll see.

I've always been curious about the League of... comics but I've always had too many other tpbs I want to read. Blame Marvel! Were they as good as they're meant to be?

  7. I really enjoyed Money, although I did think I ruined it slightly for myself because I'd seen the BBC drama of it with Nick Frost in. I thought that was pretty good, but knowing what the big twist was at the end meant I constantly knew what was coming. I had the same with V for Vendetta having watched the film about 10 times. The bit where Evie is a prisoner would have been much more exciting and thrilling if I hadn't know what was going to happen.

I've heard loads about American Gods and it's meant to be great but I just haven't got round to it yet. My boyfriend has the biggest comic collection ever so I keep finding stuff I want to read from it and getting distracted from other stuff I want to read. Neil Gaiman is generally amazing though PLUS he's one half of my favourite ever "celebrity couple"!

I really enjoyed them. I quite like Alan Moore as a general rule anyway, and what I liked about the League of E.G. was the fucking BADASS female lead character. I get so frustrated at the lack of believable female characters in comics because it seems like every single one is dressed with their tits hanging out and a tiny waist. I just hate it. But in L.o.E.G. she's just brilliant, really strong, and doesn't need any protection from the men. There's one bit I liked a lot where the league were under attack and one of the men tried to protect her and she just whacked the attacker in the face and said something along the lines of "i don't need any help from YOU!". Some of it is quite farfetched obviously but it's really fun and has a sense of humour which is something I find lacking from Alan Moore's work sometimes.

Sorry for the essay! :) x

  9. Great list!

Just a thought here though about Prometheus Rising, that book is a doing kind of book that while it can be read in a matter of days it takes years to perform.

Also, I will be looking into some of these myself in the very near future. Thanks for the inspiration.
